Castle Guard

PDF: Castle Guard

You will need: Soccer balls (can be foam balls, or smaller soccer balls of any kind), plastic cones (small, flat cones work best)

How to play: Divide your group into groups of 4. Set one ball on top of a plastic cone – and designate one person to start on the “Castle Guard”. Their job is to block the others from kicking their ball and knocking over the ball on the cone. The remaining 3 players can dribble and pass however and how much they like before finding an opening to knock the ball off. They cannot simply knock the ball off my kicking it with their feet, and the Castle Guard cannot touch their ball directly. When someone is able to knock the ball off, they become the Castle Guard for the next round.

Modifications:

  1. Adjust the size of ball the students are using – a smaller ball like a “pebble” works better for smaller feet, and foam balls can work well for kids who have fears of full soccer balls
  2. Put a hoop around the cone and ball that the guard must stay out of – this makes it much easier for the kickers and much harder for the guard
  3. To encourage passing, have a minimum numbers of passes to complete before they can make an attempt at the ball
